“From Inside” Photo Exhibition at the Festival d’Avignon
The photo exhibition “From Inside” curated by Kateryna Radchenko is taking place at the one of the oldest theatre festival Festival d’Avignon, France.
The From Inside exhibition project presents the work of four Ukrainian photographers – Alexander Chekmenev, Pavlo Dorohoi, Igor Efimov and Daria Svertilova. They address the deep experiences and personal stories of Ukrainians and try to visualize them through photography. The war in Ukraine has been going on since 2014, and in February 2022, Russia’s full-scale invasion began. The works presented here created both before and after the Big War, demonstrate how life and artists’ visual language have changed.
The photo exhibition is part of the broader Ukrainian program “Pavilion of the Future, Ukraine 2024: With Beating Hearts”, which is presented in Avignon for the second time by the Ukrainian Institute and La Manufacture. In particular, the festival, which runs from July 4 to 22, will feature the theater performance “Caligula”, the film “20 Days in Mariupol”, and a series of discussions on resilience and reconstruction. The Ukrainian pavilion will present a variety of artistic events united by the theme of full-scale war with a special focus on Mariupol. The headliner will be the documentary musical performance “City of Mary: Siege Diaries” by Yevhenia Vidishcheva and the Vidlik Projects theater project, which will tell the story of twin sisters Ania and Nastia Grechkina, who managed to escape the occupation.
