Essays on the History of Ukrainian Photography – Selected Authors Announced

Odesa Photo Days is launching a new long-term project to research and rethink the history of Ukrainian photography. The project will result in a series of publications that bring together essays by authors working with archival materials, regional histories, vernacular photography, and the role of photographic practices in Ukraine in the 19th and 20th centuries.
In autumn 2024, we announced an open call for research proposals.
We received 51 applications from different cities and regions of Ukraine – from historians, photographers, curators, researchers, and writers. This response confirms the growing interest in studying Ukrainian photography and the need for platforms to support such research and publication.
Following the selection process, we are pleased to announce the 20 authors who will take part in the first stage of the project. Each author will work on an essay that may be included in the first volume of the series.
